Why Schools Ask Every Visitor to Check In

A single entrance and an ID check can feel like a hassle. They let a school know exactly who is in the building.

Many schools route all visitors, including parents and volunteers, through the main office. Staff check a photo ID, print a badge, and note where the visitor is going.

Why familiar faces check in too

In an emergency, the visitor log tells staff exactly who is inside. A missing name could mean searching for someone who already left, or missing someone who is still there.

TipBring your ID even for quick drop-offs. Most offices will deliver a forgotten lunch or backpack to the classroom for you.

This post is general information. Your school's own plan comes first, so ask the school office for its specific procedures.
